Sources

skoleplass.no is built on open, authoritative sources — Norwegian directorates, statutes, ombudspersons, and independent supervisors. The full list is below. Domain names stay in Norwegian; each entry includes an English explainer.

Primary sources for school data

Utdanningsdirektoratet (udir.no)
The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, a directorate under the Ministry of Education. The professional authority for kindergarten, primary, lower-secondary, and upper-secondary education. Owns the national curriculum, the national tests, Elevundersøkelsen, and Nasjonalt Skoleregister (the national school register).
Use on skoleplass: The foundation for every quality figure we display: school name, year groups, pupil and staff counts, and every indicator on the school pages.
Lovdata (lovdata.no)
Stiftelsen Lovdata publishes Norwegian statutes and regulations — free and authoritative. Opplæringsloven (the Education Act) and its regulations live here.
Use on skoleplass: Every legal reference in our guides links directly to the relevant section of Opplæringsloven or its regulations.
Statsforvalteren (statsforvalteren.no)
The County Governor — central government's representative in each county. Among other things, handles complaints on individual administrative decisions about special-needs education, bullying, and other school-related rulings.
Use on skoleplass: Referenced across our complaint guides — we explain when the County Governor is the right body and how the process works.
Statistisk sentralbyrå (ssb.no)
Norway's official statistics producer (Statistics Norway). Publishes demography, employment, education levels, and living conditions at municipality and county level.
Use on skoleplass: Background figures on municipality and county pages (population breakdown, pupil count in compulsory school, education levels).
Brønnøysundregistrene (brreg.no)
Norway's central register of business enterprises. Publishes organisation numbers, founding dates, and ownership for independent/private schools (friskoler).
Use on skoleplass: Fallback source for organisation numbers and founding dates when UDIR's data is incomplete, especially for independent schools.
Kartverket (kartverket.no)
The Norwegian Mapping Authority — place names, addresses, municipal and district borders.
Use on skoleplass: Address matching for schools, and the geometry of municipality, county, and district pages.

Rights, oversight, and support

Barneombudet (barneombudet.no)
The Children's Ombudsperson. Promotes children's interests vis-à-vis the public and private sector and monitors whether Norwegian law safeguards children's rights.
Use on skoleplass: Referenced in articles on bullying, school environment, and children's rights. The Ombudsperson also publishes resources aimed at children and young people directly.
FUG — Foreldreutvalget for grunnopplæringen (fug.no)
A state-appointed parents' committee that advises education authorities and supports parents and FAUs (the parents' council at each school).
Use on skoleplass: Source for FAU routines, parent meetings, school-home cooperation, and practical advice on day-to-day school life.
Statped (statped.no)
The Norwegian Support System for Special Education. Provides assessment, advice, and guidance to municipalities and counties on children, young people, and adults with special educational needs.
Use on skoleplass: Referenced in articles on special-needs education and on visual, hearing, and language difficulties.
Elev- og lærlingombud / Mobbeombud
County-level ombudspersons who handle enquiries from pupils and parents about bullying, exclusion, and breaches of the right to a safe and supportive school environment.
Use on skoleplass: Referenced in our bullying guides — we explain when the Mobbeombud can be called in on top of the school's legal duty to act (aktivitetsplikt).

Privacy and universal design

Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no)
The Norwegian Data Protection Authority — independent supervisor of the privacy regulations in Norway. Handles complaints about GDPR breaches.
Use on skoleplass: Referenced in our privacy statement and in articles touching pupil data, Feide (the national ID federation for education), and school apps.
Tilsynet for universell utforming (uutilsynet.no)
The Norwegian Authority for Universal Design of ICT — supervises digital services, including public school portals, for WCAG and the Norwegian regulation on universal design.
Use on skoleplass: Source when we discuss accessibility on school systems (Feide, Visma, Vigilo, IST). We follow WCAG 2.2 AA ourselves.
