Who is behind skoleplass.no

Background

skoleplass.no is made by the editor, who previously ran bhgplass.no — a similar guide to Norwegian kindergartens (barnehager). After several years of feedback from parents who missed something similar for compulsory school, skoleplass was the natural next step: the same editorial line, the same data discipline, but built on the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training's school register (Nasjonalt Skoleregister) and public quality indicators.

The premise is simple. Parents should be able to orient themselves about their school — or one they are considering — without having to dig through a dozen different government portals. All the data is publicly available. Our job is to sort, combine, and present it in ways that actually help.

skoleplass.no is operated by DAVA ENK (registered with Brønnøysundregistrene, Norway's register of business enterprises) — a sole proprietorship with no external funding.

What we are not

• Not a government site. We are not UDIR, the County Governor (Statsforvalteren), any municipality, or any other public authority.
• Not sponsored. No school, municipality, publisher, private school, or software vendor pays us for coverage or placement.
• Not ad-funded. You will not see banners, pop-ups, cookie walls, or affiliate links. Plausible Analytics is cookie-less and anonymised; more detail in the Norwegian privacy statement.

Funding

The service is self-funded. We run a low-key newsletter for parents who want alerts when new guides or statistics go live — sign-up is free and uses double opt-in. If the service ever has to be funded differently, it will happen transparently and without affecting editorial independence.
